Course designer Frédéric Cottier of France, who set the tracks at the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, designed the courses for the Seven-Year-Old Young Jumper Division, which saw three horses advance to a jump-off. Moore took the win by more than a second over the short course by crossing the timers double clear in 51.91 seconds with Scarlett du Sart Z.

In second place, Caitlyn Connors of Glen Mills, PA, stopped the clock double clear in 52.39 seconds riding her own Express Blue GP du Bois Madame. Stephanie Gallucci of Etob Coke, ON, rounded out the top three with a time of 53.81 seconds aboard Fredie Leva for owner John Gallucci. Peter Leone of Greenwich, CT, and Lionshare Farm’s LS Donner finished fourth with a rail down in the jump-off in 49.59 seconds, and Maggie McAlary of Amherst, NH, capped the top five riding Exotinsitte for Double H Farm with four faults in the jump-off in 50.80 seconds.

Moore got the ride on Scarlett du Sart Z, a seven-year-old Zangersheide mare (Stakkato de Hann x First Bride) owned by Vlock Show Stables, LLC, at the end of July after Teddy Vlock imported the mount from France.

“This is only my second show with her after she made her U.S. debut at the American Gold Cup here at Old Salem Farm two weeks ago,” said Moore, who is producing Scarlett for Vlock to eventually take over the reins. “She was really quick today and jumped very well. There were a few tricky parts in the course, but overall I think it rode nicely and it was really good for these young horses.”

Speaking about the addition of young horse events to the Old Salem Farm Fall Classic, Moore noted, “This ring is beautiful and a big grass field is a nice setting for young horses to gain experience on. We love it here.”

The Classic Champions Young Horse Divisions joined the Old Salem Farm Fall Classic this year as a way to elevate the level and showcase the production of young horses in North America. Divisions for five-, six-, and seven-year-old horses highlighted the schedule over three days.

On Thursday, another Irish rider, Declan Egan, won the Classic Champions Five-Year-Old Jumper Final riding Hamilton, owned by Drumnacross Farm, Ltd., as well as the Six-Year-Old Jumper Final aboard Coconut Kiss , owned by Drumnacross Farm, Ltd., on the Grand Prix Field.

Jumper Night highlighted the Old Salem Farm Fall Classic schedule on Friday evening with a win for Sydney Shulman and Quidam 13 in the $5,000 1.30m Jumper Prix, presented by Maarten Huygens Horse Sales, in the indoor arena at Old Salem Farm.

Shulman and Quidam 13, a 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Bogegardens Quattro x Carano) owned by her mother Jill Shulman, were clear in the faults-converted class to take top call. Ireland’s Jordan Coyle, who rides for Old Salem Farm, piloted Escalette, owned by Elan Farm, to second, and fellow Irish rider Kevin Mealiff rounded out the top three riding Captain, owned by Jeannine Scigliano.

“I was really excited to do this class,” said Shulman, who is based out of Back Country Farm in Greenwich, CT. “This was my top grand prix horse at one time and did grand prix classes everywhere. As he got older, I started using him a little less and only pull him out for special occasions. He is a good sport, and he jumped so well tonight. This class is so fun, and it is great for the spectators to be able to come and enjoy an evening of horse sport.”
